Welcome to the Penn Law Immigration Clinic!  PLIC is a student-run pro bono project that provides direct legal services to indigent immigrants in the greater Philadelphia area under the supervision of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS).  PLIC students assist individuals from all over the world in applications for asylum, and for benefits under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).  Additionally, students are engaged in asylum research and research related to repatriation and resettlement for two detainees at Guantanamo Bay.  Finally, PLIC brings together students interested in immigration and international human rights issues.

Founded in 2002, PLIC students have served clients seeking to adjust their status in applications before the Department of Homeland Security, including both affirmative filings with Citizenship and Immigration Services and defensive filings in the Philadelphia and York Prison Immigration Courts. The clinic is coordinated by three student directors, and is composed of forty-eight first, second, third year law students and LLMs.
